How difficult is a Ladakh motorcycle tour?
Our signature Ladakh route, the Umling La HerWay: Women’s Himalayan Odyssey, is rated 7/10 for difficulty over 1,380 km. Our Spiti and Zanskar route, the Grand Himalayan Odyssey, is rated 8/10, the toughest route we currently run.
What is Umling La and why is it famous?
Umling La is among the highest motorable mountain passes in the world, located within the Ladakh region. It’s a bucket-list milestone for adventure riders and forms the high point of our Umling La HerWay route.
Can beginners ride the Ladakh or Spiti Valley routes?
These routes are built for riders with advance level riding experience, given the sustained altitude, variable road surface, and long daily distances. Riders newer to guided touring are better served starting with our Rajasthan or South India routes first.
What motorcycle is used for Himalayan motorcycle tours?
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is our most commonly used bike for Himalayan routes, a 450cc single with roughly 40 hp, long-travel suspension, and an adjustable seat height (825 mm, up to 845 mm, with an 805 mm low-seat option available on request).
Is the Ladakh motorcycle tour suitable for pillion riders?
Some of our Himalayan tours are suitable for pillion riders, while others are not. Our Umling La Odyssey is well suited for pillion riders and has been enjoyed by many couples and friends travelling together. However, due to the more challenging terrain and off-road sections, our Zanskar Valley Odyssey and Grand Himalayan Odyssey are recommended for solo riders only. If you’re unsure which tour is right for you and your pillion, we’re happy to help you choose the best option.
